Despite its location in Central America, the official language of Belize is
English, making it a popular destination for tourists. Situated on the Caribbean
Sea, the capital is the inland Belmopan, although the largest city is the
coast-based Belize City is home to more of the 290,000 residents and where most
of the East Coast and South-based flights arrive.
The country is agriculturally based, exporting high numbers of sugar, bananas
and citrus fruits. However, tourism is growing, especially as divers flock to
Caye Caulker and amateur historians gaze at the Mayan ruins.
While in Belize, indulge is locally cultivated shrimp and the Belikin line of
beers. Rum producers include One Barrel Rum and Travelers Rum.
